Visit to a Spirit Medium

Over the years I have lost many loved ones to death but when my mother passed on the 8th February 1997 it became a turning point in my quest to learn the truth (if any) about life after death.

There is a huge amount of material available from very credible sources which point to life continuing after physical death. Much of this is documented by well meaning people and is freely available on the internet and I also have collected a large array of testimony on my own internet site.

About two years after my mother died I came across a book called ‘Love Never Dies’ which was written by a very special lady named Margaret Dent who sadly has herself passed away in recent times. She claimed to be a spirit medium with the ability to receive information from spirit and I arranged an interview with her on 15th July 1999 which lasted for an hour and a half and was taped.

I admit that I was hoping for some very specific information from my mother such as names, dates and places etc. but this was not to be. The material that I received from Margaret related in general ways to many of my family members and specifically to my mother. Some of the information was quite accurate such as predicting that I would become a writer in later years although at the time I had written nothing. Since then I have written eight novels using as background the vast material that I researched about life after death.

What follows is an abridged version of the first half of the session taken from the tape recording which I still have. There is one particular segment which absolutely cannot be attributed to chance. My mother and I were always close but at the time of her death there was one particular focal point between us. This was a pet dog that we both shared and loved which my mother had named when we first got her as a pup. The name was two repeated syllables and it is quite unusual. Margaret Dent had no way of knowing this and yet she told me the name without even herself realizing that the name ‘Bar-Bar’ was a double word.

There’s a whole lot of things okay so just first and foremost they want to show this to you. Going through the life that you’ve been going through and losing the people that you love unfortunately has been the only path that would bring you at this age and stage in your life to wanting to do something about your spiritual self.
Gary
That’s certainly true.
Margaret
You said in your letter that as a four year old child ‘people said that I played music that was beautiful.’ A lady’s voice just said to me ‘he did’ because they were telling the truth you see and your mother was very big on telling the truth. I knew that from the attitude that came through. Okay a part of your journey as the soul you are is this. You are very talented musically and if you’d come into this life and carried on with that then you would have been carrying on with what you have done in previous lives but you being the person that you are you went into mathematics. Now you are composing something else that you are exceptionally good at…yes…?
Gary
Computer Programming.
Margaret
So you didn’t go so far away if you can understand what I’m trying to say to you. It’s like you’ve got a whole setup here but you’re very cunning with it. It’s kind of like when you came into this life you didn’t want to carry on with the things that you’ve done before because you know you’ll get lost in that and you won’t learn and do whatever it is that you are supposed to do in this life. Your music and your maths including computers are a parallel path. You didn’t make it too hard for yourself, not as hard as you could have. You weren’t stupid is what I’m saying. Alright?
Gary
Yes
Margaret
Are you working from home?
Gary
I live at home and go to work. I’m a teacher.
Margaret
So you’re not actually working from home at this stage? Because that’s changing.
Gary
I do a little bit of marking at home.
Margaret
:Well you’re going to be doing at lot more work from home, you see. Working at home actually…umm…won’t involve you having to go to work every day. It’s just that it’s part of the changes that are happening in your life. It’s growth. It’s not negative, okay. This career path that you are on is expanding from a sidetrack which has to do with computers. Can you understand what I’m saying?
Gary
I understand.
Margaret
Have you been doing more writing lately than usual?
Gary
Writing?
Margaret
Yeah, writing. So if you’re in a situation where you’re going to be writing would that be unusual? I’m being shown a scene with you sitting there and you’re writing. So does that ring any bells with you at the moment?
Gary
Only that I always fancied that I’d like to write novels but so far I never have.
Margaret
Okay so this sidetrack becomes stronger than the actual main path you are on. You end up coming off this path and going onto this other path which becomes your main path. So, that’s what I’m saying; a change in your career area. Do you know anybody by the name of Bar?
Gary
Yes
Margaret
Who’s that?
Gary
My dog.
Margaret
:Your dog! (laughs). Okay, because your mother is saying Bar to me.
Your mother was tired at the end. It’s like an energy thing like when you just don’t have your energy. That type of tiredness comes from if you have a respiratory problem. It can come from kidneys and it makes things that are just normal things to people become a real issue.
Gary
Yes that was the case for her at the end.
Margaret
Yes, because it’s a condition which she’s come through with but it’s just as you said. It’s a condition of how she was towards the end. It doesn’t mean that it’s how she is now, okay.
Gary
Thank you.
Margaret
Alright…umm…because your mother in the first place looks young enough to be your daughter not your mother; let me tell you that, right?
Gary
She was very attractive when she was young.
Margaret
It’s her favourite memory of herself and that’s how she presents herself. You wouldn’t recognize her if you saw her.
Gary
I have photos.
Margaret
Okay, so she’s got to come through with how she was when she was older you know like how she was feeling and so forth. However your mother will never look old again I can tell you. That’s her nature. Do you know what I’m saying to you?
Gary
Yes, I get it now.
Margaret
Now…umm…also there’s something…umm…she keeps showing me which I can’t understand what it is and it’s not for me to have to understand it, it’s up to you. But she keeps showing me. I’m not quite sure, hang on a minute, how to explain it? Alright…umm…did she write poetry?
Gary
Yes
Margaret
Because I’ve got a scene you know and of willows, you know willow trees?

The tape goes on to describe willow trees which my mother always loved. It references poetry which my mother wrote and in later years she had demonstrated a strong talent for automatic writing (see my website for examples). Margaret also goes on to describe problems with my aunt’s (that is my mother’s sister) legs which were injured in two separate freak accidents. My mother suffered with chronic kidney disease and she died of respiratory failure.
